Ok, thanks to the atarimax sio2pc adapter, I'm live with my 800!

Since I'm TOTALLY new to the 800, I need much help. I'd really appreceate any and all responses!

Ok, first question...is there a "warm" reboot, like on modern PC's "ctrl-alt-del" on the 800 ? Sometimes hitting "system reset" will work, but sometimes the same game loads back up...

Second, what are some of the good;
lightgun games?
paddle games?

Hitting the RESET button results in what is usually called a "warmstart". Technically speaking, after hitting that button the program counter of the computer is altered to a certain routine of the OS which resets some internal variables and pointers. But there is a way to prevent this resetting by means of software mostly used by tape games with long loading time. If you want to restart the system in such cases you have to switch it off (then wait 10 seconds) and on again.

good lightgun games?

I like Operation Blood by Mirage Software and the lightgun hack of Special Forces by Homesoft.

Not sure Special Forces and Operation Blood work on an 800, you might need an XL (and maybe switch to PAL). As for paddle games, you could try Arkanoid.

Paddle game: Castle Crisis!

BTW - Computer War has the C64 version on one side of the disk, and the A8 on the reverse. It's a "flippy".

Ok, so now I have another question...
How do I use the disk drive? Is it as simple as connecting it to the 800, and powering both on? does the 800 automaticially "read" the disk drive or do I have to type anything on the keyboard?

It's very simple actually. Once you've turned on the disk drive and inserted your disk, power on the 800 and your game should boot by itself.

Where can I find the key to all the "post" names attached to the .atr files ?

Ex...gorf [cht]="cheat"
......gorf [title]="same game with hacked/added title screen"

et cetera...?????

Is this related to TOSEC? IMO, this crap should be avoided...

TOSEC is a renaming tool / standard for game images and it uses such abbreviations. Overall, it's a good idea but very poorly implemented. I don't want to explain this any further or it would take hours

Anyway, just stick to normal files, there's generally no use having all these so-called "alternate" versions.

Thats exactly why I want to know...some game files ONLY have an abbreveation after them. For example, I've guessed that if the games file has [bas] after it, I probably need a basic cart sitting in the computer for it to work? I've decided to try and test and catalog as many games as I can so I can play them easier, so if I could find out what they all mean it ould help a lot.
