Worst Jaguar games...
Well, this was a machine with some good carts, but the 50% (in my opinion) were such a kick in the ass, for example:
Cybermorph
Zool
And i will remember another one, but now i´m sleepy

Re: Worst Jaguar games...
All of them except for AVP,Doom,Raiden,Rayman and Tempest
Re: Worst Jaguar games...
I liked Cybermorph a lot. The atmosphere was great and in Battlemorph even better. And I don't even like 3D or FPS shooters at all
But then, I always compare games to similar gaming system. In my opinion there's no point putting Cart-console against CD-ROM ones. It's clear there's no way to compete, because casual gamers usually look at graphics first. If it looks average, they don't even bother to see if there's a good gameplay.
Checkered Flag and Club Drive were a big disappointments, because playability was so completely ruined. I think Atari's gametesters should have been kicked out. Clearly these guys didn't care anything else but their monthly payment.
But I think Jag games library is not that bad when you give a game some chance. I blame Atari's marketing people for trying to build a "monster-console" image for Jag. If it would have been advertised just as a "normal" game console and not a big 64-bit leap forward in videogaming it clearly couldn't deliver, it would maybe had a more chance... Advertisers lie to cash fast from the company and people feel cheated.
Also for most gaming systems, 7 out of 10 published games are big crap. So big that if it would have been an introduction to videogaming, most of us would have broken speedlimits just by running away. But most systems have so large gaming libraries, it feels there's a lot more quality in the system. You only need 10 to 20 quality games out of a few hundred or thousand and magically the systems "seems" to have more quality.
All Jag would have needed at the time would have been a really well-coded and presented platformer with a spot-on playability starring Bentley Bear with some fake 3D-sequences as a bonus rounds

Re: Worst Jaguar games...
For me which puts jaguar on map is that quite many games had so very bad code class. didnt they know what 50 or atleast 25fps was?
why release white man cant jump, checkerd flag, club drive, nearly all the fighting games, skyhammer, supercross 3d, Troy aikman football and so on..
or hell why not release strange games none will understand..
I-war, Attack of the mutant penguins, baldies
But ofcourse there is great stuffs along:
Iron Soldier 2, Soul Star (final work is in workin by reboot), Super Fly DX, Wolfiendsten 3d, Tempest, Sensible Soccer, Cannon Fodder, Doom, Power Drive, Flashback, Fever Pitch Soccer, Worms, Zero 5, Theme PArk, Super Burnout, Pitfall, Rayman, Avp, and a couple more
My 5 cents in this.

Re: Worst Jaguar games...
Because the Jag was designed with idea that the graphics chips would do most of the work. Nowadays that's just how things are done, but at the time no-one was used to it so they tried to do it all on the 68000. It really was ahead of its time, but that was its biggest problem.Marcer wrote:For me which puts jaguar on map is that quite many games had so very bad code class. didnt they know what 50 or atleast 25fps was?
Re: Worst Jaguar games...
One thing ive noticed is the longer the time frame the more respect the jaguar is accumulating with collectors.
there is no doubt on release it was over hyped and a lot of the games didnt come close to that hype.
but even at the time when i bought mine, it was clear there were titles better than any machine at the time.
Doom, there wasn't a console port that came close until the playstation version, nothing else had a title that came close to alien vs predator.
but its easy to look at any console early releases at berate them as poor, i never saw a great selection even in the playstation 2 until after its intial first year.
what killed it was bad retro releases...... missle command, defender etc.
with atari owning the arcade licences for gauntlet and paperboy... why not release them?.....nintendo did after the jaguars death on the n64 with paperboy 64 and gauntlet legaends
why not a arcade perfect harddrivin or imagine if area 51 that used a co jaguar system in the arcade had been releaed, the jaguar was clearly capable since the arcade machine ran very similar hardware
and to many panther 32 bit dsevelopment titles (trevor mcfur, cybermorph) and games suffering framerate and control problems like checkered flag and clubdrive pushed, pushed far too much.
with the 64bit claim, the release of a lot of 16bit games, because that were most game development was (brutal football, soccer kids, syndicate, cannon fodder etc) which couldnt have been released any better versions, it undermined the perception of its 64bit credentials and ablity.
on the atari jaguar, really is a large number of games hiding in its catalouge for a console that hit the buffers so soon after its release from a company in deep finacial difficuilties (sacrificing the falcon 6 months after release in 92 to plow everything into its last comercial hope the jaguar) before the jaguar even hit the shelves...great games are there.....iron soilder, iwar, ultra vortex, battlemorph, alien vs predator
and a number of beta games showed some real potential in the jaguar hardware, phaze zero for example

Re: Worst Jaguar games...
to answer the worst games question.
i actually like checkered flag cybermorph and kasumi ninja.
i think white man cant jumps tournament mode is horendous and broken but a single game with friends its a good game.
i think these games come in for far to much and over the top critism.
i own most of the jaguar titles but 1 game ive never been able to get into, i find it boring and tedious, but if you like puzzle platforms you might like it.
Dino Dude, definetly not a fan, though know and then i'll grab the cartridge to see if there is some essential element of gameplay ive missed to give it a second chance.
Blue lighting for a cd packin is pretty awful, decent enough for the sega cd game and even then it would be pretty drab and average, it should never have been released.
Club Drive some really nice ideas in it but poorly executed, mainly frame rate and camera angle problems..
Atari's main problem since ET giving developers impossible and stupid time frames to deliver a game, and then suprised when it bombs and worse still never ever learning from the mistake
